Only GST-registered businesses may issue a document labelled Tax Invoice. GST registration is compulsory once GST turnover reaches $75,000 in a 12-month period. A tax invoice must be provided within 28 days of a customer’s written request. A tax invoice is generally not required for sales of $82.50 (incl. GST) or less.
For taxable sales under $1,000 a valid tax invoice must show: the words “Tax Invoice”; seller identity and ABN; date of issue; description of items (quantity and price); the GST amount payable or the statement “Total price includes GST”; and whether each item is taxable. For sales of $1,000 or more (incl. GST), the buyer’s identity or ABN must also be shown.

This controls whether the document is labelled “Tax Invoice” (registered) or “Invoice” (not registered) and whether GST is calculated.
Document will be labelled Tax Invoice. Unit prices entered are treated as GST-exclusive; GST at 10% is computed on all “Taxable” line items.
